Heater Coolant Heater Inlet Hose Replacement

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.

2. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill Diesel) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill).

3. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair for the 4.3L engine, or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L and 7.0L engine, or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair for the 6.6L engine.

4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L) Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement.





5. Reposition the heater hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly using J 38185.

6. Remove the heater hose from the heater pipe assembly near the front of the engine.





7. Remove the heater pipe to the engine retaining nut.





8. Reposition the heater hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly using J 38185.

9. Remove the heater hose from the heater pipe assembly near the rear of the engine.





10. Remove the heater pipe to transmission housing retaining nuts.





11. Reposition the heater pipe hoses to the fuel operated heater clamps using J 38185.

12. Remove the heater pipe hoses from the fuel operated heater.

Note:
Note the routing of the hose assembly to ensure proper installation.

13. Remove the heater pipe hose assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the heater pipe hose assembly to the vehicle.

2. Install the heater pipe hoses to the fuel operated heater.

3. Reposition the heater pipe hoses to the fuel operated heater clamps using J 38185.





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Install the heater pipe to transmission housing retaining nuts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).





5. Install the heater hose to the heater pipe assembly near the rear of the engine.

6. Reposition the heater hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly using J 38185.





7. Install the heater pipe to the engine retaining nut and tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb in).





8. Install the heater hose to the heater pipe assembly near the front of the engine.

9. Reposition the heater hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly using J 38185.

10. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L) Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement.

11. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair for the 4.3L engine, or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L and 7.0L engine, or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement Service and Repair for the 6.6L engine.

12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill Diesel) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill).

13. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
