Compressed Natural Gas Tank Replacement - Midship Tank

J-45878 - Combustible Gas Detector

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools Tools and Equipment.

Removal Procedure

1. Perform the fuel tank venting procedure. Refer to Compressed Natural Gas Tank Venting Service and Repair.

2. Close the manual tank valve.

3. Remove the tank shield brackets.





4. Disconnect the electrical connectors.





Note:
DO NOT remove "live" pressure relief device (PRD) line.

5. Remove the high pressure fuel supply line.

6. Support the tank on the tank cradle assembly and remove the 4 bracket bolts.





7. Lower the tank assembly.

8. Disassemble the PRD bracket and lines.

9. Remove the tank retaining straps.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the tank retaining straps and brackets. Make sure the straps are oriented properly and tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).





2. If replacing the tank assembly, PRD connecting lines, brackets and devices must be transferred to the new tank. Replace all O-rings.

3. Support midship tank assembly on tank cradle assembly and raise.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Secure using the 4 tank assembly bracket bolts and tighten to 79 Nm (60 lb ft).

5. Install the high pressure fuel supply line.

6. Using New O-rings, lubricate the new O-rings with petroleum jelly or equivalent before installation.





7. Connect the electrical connectors.

8. Install the tank shield brackets and tighten the bolts to 60 Nm (52 lb ft).

9. Open the manual tank valves.

10. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at the serviced fittings with the J-45878 - detectoror an equivalent leak detector.

11. Install ALL the fuel tank covers.
