2-6 Clutch Removal

Special Tools
* J 24204-2 - Bar and Stud Assembly
* J 44530 - Clutch Piston Spring Compressor

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools Tools and Equipment.





Caution: Refer to 3-5 Reverse Clutch Backing Plate Rivet Damage Caution 3-5 Reverse Clutch Backing Plate Rivet Damage Caution.

1. Install J 24204-2 - assembly (1) and J 44530 - compressor (2) into the transmission case. Make sure thatJ 24204-2 - assembly does not touch the gear thrust plate rivets (6) on the 3rd, 5th, and reverse clutch backing plate assembly.
2. Compress the piston return spring assemblies (5) until a gap is visible below the retaining rings (3 and 4).

Note: The outer 2-6 clutch retaining ring is thinner and larger in circumference compared to the inner low and reverse clutch retaining ring.

3. Remove the low and reverse clutch retaining ring (3).
4. Remove the 2-6 clutch retaining ring (4).
5. Remove (1) and J 24204-2 - assembly (2) from the transmission case.




6. Remove the 2-6 clutch backing plate (1).




7. Remove six 2-6 clutch fiber plates (1) and six 2-6 clutch steel plates (2).
8. Remove the 2-6 clutch piston return spring assembly (3).




9. Remove the input internal ring gear (1).
