Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) receives discrete inputs from ajar switches in the front and rear door latch assemblies to indicate the status of the doors. The door ajar switches are normally open when the doors are fully closed. When a door is opened, the door ajar switch contacts close providing a path to ground. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from the BCM indicating the door ajar status and the driver information center (DIC) located at the bottom of the IPC, illuminates the appropriate door ajar message when one of the doors is open. If this message is displayed and the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph), a chime will sound.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Driver Door Ajar Sw, Passenger Door Ajar Sw, Left Rear Door Ajar Sw and Right Rear Door Ajar Sw. parameters while opening and closing each door. The parameters should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.
2. Observe the DIC message while opening and closing each door. The message should display DRIVER DOOR OPEN, LEFT REAR DOOR OPEN, PASSENGER DOOR OPEN, and RIGHT REAR DOOR OPEN when the doors are open and should not display when the doors are closed.

If the DIC message does not display when the doors are open or continuously displays when the doors are closed, replace the IPC.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
2. Test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal listed below and ground:

* Driver door latch terminal 8 (With RPO AU3)
* Driver door latch terminal 6 (Without RPO AU3)
* Passenger door latch terminal 3
* Right rear door latch terminal 3
* Left rear door latch terminal 6

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool scan tool Driver Door Ajar Sw, Passenger Door Ajar Sw, Left Rear Door Ajar Sw and Right Rear Door Ajar Sw. parameters are Door Closed.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

* Driver door latch terminal 6 (With RPO AU3)
* Driver door latch terminal 4 (Without RPO AU3)
* Passenger door latch terminal 1
* Right rear door latch terminal 1
* Left rear door latch terminal 4

4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal listed below and ground. Verify the scan tool Driver Door Ajar Sw, Passenger Door Ajar Sw, Left Rear Door Ajar Sw and Right Rear Door Ajar Sw. parameters are Door Ajar.

* Driver door latch terminal 6 (With RPO AU3)
* Driver door latch terminal 4 (Without RPO AU3)
* Passenger door latch terminal 1
* Right rear door latch terminal 1
* Left rear door latch terminal 4

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door latch.

Component Testing

Front Door Latch
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below with the door latch in the open position.

* Driver door latch terminal 4 and 6 (Without RPO AU3)
* Driver door latch terminal 6 and 8 (With RPO AU3)
* Passenger door latch terminal 1 and 3

If not the specified value, replace the door latch.

3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below with the door latch in the closed position;

* Driver door latch terminal 6 and 8 (With RPO AU3)
* Passenger door latch terminal 1 and 3

If greater than the specified range, replace the door latch.

Rear Door Latch
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear door latch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below with the door latch in the open position.

* Left rear door latch terminal 5 and 6
* Right rear door latch terminal 1 and 3

If not the specified value, replace the rear door latch.

3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below with the door latch in the closed position.

* Left rear door latch terminal 5 and 6
* Right rear door latch terminal 1 and 3

If greater than the specified range, replace the rear door latch.
