Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Cleaning and Inspection (LML)




1. Remove the heater inlet hose connector (1).
2. Remove the heater hose (2).




3. Remove the water bypass hose (1).




4. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve cooling feed hose (1).




5. Remove the EGR valve pipe bolts (2-4).
6. Remove the EGR valve pipe (5).
7. Remove the EGR valve pipe gasket (1).
8. Remove the EGR valve assembly (7).
9. Remove the EGR valve assembly gaskets (6).




10. Remove the EGR cooler assembly bolts (3).
11. Remove the EGR cooler assembly (2).
12. Remove the EGR cooler assembly gasket (1).




13. Remove the EGR cooler bypass valve assembly bolts (3) and studs (4).
14. Remove the EGR cooler bypass valve assembly (2).
15. Remove the EGR cooler bypass valve assembly gasket (1).




16. Clean the EGR valve pipe (1), EGR valve assembly (2), EGR cooler (3-4), and EGR cooler bypass valve assembly (5).
17. Clean and inspect the EGR valve assemblies and EGR cooler gasket sealing surfaces.
18. Inspect the EGR valve assemblies, EGR cooler, and EGR valve pipe for damage.
19. Replace the EGR valve assemblies, EGR cooler, or EGR valve pipe if damage is found.




20. Install a NEW EGR cooler bypass valve assembly gasket (1).
21. Install the EGR cooler bypass valve assembly (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

22. Install the EGR cooler bypass valve assembly bolts (3) and hand tighten.
23. Install the EGR cooler studs (4) and tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb in).




24. Install a NEW EGR cooler assembly gasket (1).
25. Install the EGR cooler assembly (2).
26. Install the EGR cooler assembly bolts (3) and hand tighten.




27. Install NEW EGR valve assembly gaskets (6).
28. Install the EGR valve assembly (7).
29. Install the EGR valve pipe (5).
30. Install the EGR valve pipe bolts (2-4) and hand tighten.




31. Tighten the EGR valve pipe bolts in the sequence shown to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




32. Install the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve cooling feed hose (1).




33. Install the water bypass hose (1).




34. Install the heater hose (2).
35. Install the heater inlet hose connector (1).
