Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Replacement

Special Tools

* J 2619-01 - Slide Hammer

* J 44467 - Output Shaft Assembly Remover and Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair

2. Remove the wheel drive shaft assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.





Note:
Remove the retaining ring. DO NOT re-use the retaining ring discard. Use NEW only.

3. Remove the retaining clip for the wheel drive shaft.





4. Remove the mounting bolts (1) for the intermediate shaft and support bracket.





5. Using the J 2619-01 - hammer and the J 44467 - remover and installer, remove the wheel drive shaft from the transmission.





6. Remove the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





Note:
Ensure that the intermediate shaft is properly seated.

1. Install the intermediate shaft (1) in the vehicle.





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the intermediate shaft mounting bracket and tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb ft)..





3. Install the NEW intermediate shaft retaining.

4. Install the wheel drive shaft assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.

5. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
