Cargo Box Stowage and Midgate Window Opening Weatherstrip Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Fold down the rear seat.
2. Remove the rear removable glass panel.
3. Remove the midgate. Refer to Midgate Replacement .
4. Remove the push-in retainer (1).
5. Starting from one end, remove the weatherstrip from the vehicle.
6. Clean all mating surfaces for the weatherstrip using a lint-free cloth with Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) Naptha or a 50/50 mixture, by volume, of isopropyl alcohol and clean drinkable water to remove left over adhesive residue.
Installation Procedure
Note: To begin the installation of the weatherstrip, ensure the weatherstrip is at a minimum of 21°C (70°F).
1. Sand the weatherstrip (a) with a fine grit sand paper.
2. Apply a weatherstrip adhesive 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive P/N 051135-8008 or equivalent to the sanded area (a).
3. Position the sanded area on the weatherstrip to the adhesive and hold for 5 seconds.
4. Apply butyl rope approximately 270 mm (10 5/8 in) to mucket area (a).
5. Continue applying butyl rope up along area (1) for approximately 80 mm (3 1/8 in) then fold butyl over itself and apply down area (1).
6. Make a loop with remaining butyl rope and tack the tack strip end at edge of mucket with loopside outboard.
7. If the seal is completely removed from the cargo box, then reinstall the seal with the molded arrow (1) mark positioned in line with the metal rail edge as shown.
8. If the weatherstrip does not have arrow mark molded in, then locate rubber corner mucket 20 mm (0.79 in) from metal rail edge (a).
9. If seal was not completely removed from stowage box then make sure that the mucket is 20 mm (0.79 in) from edge or molded arrow mark is aligned with metal rail edge (a).
10. Install seal to body starting at mucket move butyl to push in mold retainer.
11. Continue seal installation up to the corner then from center of vehicle working outboard to corner.
12. Ensure the top corner of the weatherstrip is fully seated.
13. Push mucket to body to achieve butyl adhesion
14. Use butyl loop to seal corner of seal to the body, push to achieve adhesion.
15. Verify the weatherstrips are tight at center of vehicle, no gaps allowed.
16. Starting from the front end of the weatherstrip, install the weatherstrip down the length of the bed.
17. Once the seal is installed it is necessary to close the seal against the flange.
18. Install the push-in retainer (1).
19. Install the midgate. Refer to Midgate Replacement .
20. Close the midgate.
21. Install the rear removable rear glass panel.
22. Inspect the weatherstrip when the midgate is closed and the glass panel installed.
23. Reposition the rear seat in the upright position.
24. Test for water leaks.
25. If a water leak is present, adjust the midgate striker for internal water leaks and adjust the tonneau cover strikers for pickup box side water leaks.
