Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test
Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test
Circuit/System Description
A Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test is required when the Service Emission System message or Service Exhaust System message is displayed on the driver information center (DIC).
Conditions for Running
The following conditions must be met in order to enable the scan tool Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test:
* The battery voltage is greater than 10 V.
* The engine speed is at idle.
* The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor is greater than 70°C (158°F).
* The Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 2 must be less than 150°C (302°F)
* The APP sensor is less than 1 %.
* The diesel exhaust fluid temperature is greater than -7°C (19°F) and not frozen.
* DEF level must be greater than 33 %.
* DEF level must not be in restriction warning status 4 or higher.
* The brake pedal and accelerator pedal are in the released position
* The transmission is in Park or Neutral.
Diagnostic Aids
The Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test will not be allowed or will be terminated if any of the following conditions occur:

Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test
Note:
* If the reductant level warning status is at level 4 or higher, fill the DEF tank and perform the Reductant Fluid Tank Level Reset procedure.
* The scan tool must remain connected to the DLC during the entire Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test.
* Do not perform the Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test if the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) temperature is less than -7°C (19°F).
1. Verify DEF tank is full and not in reductant warning level restriction.
• If the reductant system is in restriction
Fill the DEF tank and perform the scan tool Reductant Fluid Tank Level Reset procedure.
• If the reductant system is not in restriction
2. Engine idling and at operating temperature, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Verify there are no DTCs set.
• If a DTC is set
Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle
• If a DTC is not set
3. Disconnect scan tool.
4. Ignition OFF for 2 minutes.
Note: Do not apply accelerator pedal after starting engine, otherwise the test will fail and will need to return to step 1 of the test.
5. Start engine.
6. Engine idling, connect scan tool and select the scan tool Reductant System Malf Warning Test in the Output Controls menu and follow the instructions.
Note: If the Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test exceeds 20 minutes and the Service Emission System or the Service Exhaust System message is still displayed, a second Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test will be necessary
7. Command the Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test ON with a scan tool. The Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test should start and run at idle speed for up to 20 minutes.
8. The Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test is complete when the Service Emission System message or Service Exhaust System message turns OFF.
• If the DIC message does not clear or exceeds 20 minutes
1. Engine Idling.
2. Command a second Reductant System Malfunction Warning Test ON with a scan tool.
• If the DIC message does not clear after the second test, a condition with the system still exists
• If the DIC message clears
9. All OK.
