Auxiliary Generator Replacement (KD9)

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning Service Precautions.


1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Service and Repair.

2. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L) Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L)Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (Diesel) Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (Diesel).

3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .




4. Disconnect the auxiliary generator electrical connector (1).

5. Slide the protective boot cover (2) down the positive battery cable.

6. Remove the B+ positive battery cable nut (3) and terminal (4) from the back of the auxiliary generator.




7. Remove the auxiliary generator bolts (1).

8. Remove the auxiliary generator (2).

Installation Procedure




1. Position the auxiliary generator (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the auxiliary generator bolts (1) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).




3. Install the battery positive cable terminal (4) to the auxiliary generator and tighten nut (3) to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

4. Connect the generator electrical connector (1).

5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

6. Install the upper shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L) Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L)Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (Diesel) Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (Diesel).

7. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Service and Repair.
