Locking Differential Disassemble (11.5 Inch Axle)

J-26252 - Locking Differential Governor Remover

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the ring gear, if necessary. Refer to Drive Pinion and Ring Gear Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD, and 11.5 Inch Axles) Drive Pinion and Ring Gear Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD, and 11.5 Inch Axles)Drive Pinion and Ring Gear Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) Drive Pinion and Ring Gear Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle).





Note: To aid in the removal of the governor assembly, turn the side gear as necessary to position the governor assembly between two of the side gears.

2. Using the J-26252 - remover (1), remove the governor bushing (2).




3. Remove the locking differential governor (1).





Note: To aid in the removal of the latching bracket, turn the side gear as necessary to position the governor assembly between two of the side gears.

4. Using the J-26252 - remover (1), remove the latching bracket assembly bushing (2).




5. Remove the locking differential latching bracket (1).




6. Using a punch and a hammer, remove the role pin (2).

7. Remove the differential pinion gear shaft (1).





Note: If re-using the differential and side gears, mark the relationship of the gears to the differential case before removing.

8. Remove the differential pinion gears (3) and (4) along with the thrust washers (2) and (5) from the differential case (1).




9. Remove the locking differential thrust block (2).

Note: The left differential clutch pack is the one closest to the ring gear. The right differential clutch pack is opposite the ring gear.

10. Remove the right locking differential clutch pack (1).

11. Remove the left locking differential clutch pack (3).

12. Remove the locking differential cam retaining ring (4).

13. Remove the differential side gear shim (5).
