Rear Brake Backing Plate Replacement (J90, J95, J96)

Removal Procedure

Warning:
Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.


1. Disable the parking brake cable adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling.

2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

4. Remove the rear axle hub. Refer to Rear Axle Hub, Bearing, Cup, and/or Seal Replacement Rear Axle Hub, Bearing, Cup, and/or Seal Replacement.

5. Remove the parking brake actuator. Refer to Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (JD9) Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (JD9)Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (J90, J95, J96) Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (J90, J95, J96).





6. Remove the rear brake backing plate bolts (1).





7. Remove the rear brake backing plate (1).

Installation Procedure

Note:
Do not damage the wheel speed sensor.

1. Carefully clean the rear axle flange mating surface of any debris or corrosion.





2. Install the rear brake backing plate (1).





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the rear brake backing plate bolts (1) and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

4. Install the parking brake actuator. Refer to Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (JD9) Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (JD9)Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (J90, J95, J96) Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (J90, J95, J96).

5. Install the rear axle hub. Refer to Rear Axle Hub, Bearing, Cup, and/or Seal Replacement Rear Axle Hub, Bearing, Cup, and/or Seal Replacement.

6. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

7. Enable the parking brake cable adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling.
