Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery cables.
2. Mark position and remove hood.
3. Drain cooling system.
4. Remove radiator reservoir fan, shroud and radiator. If vehicle is equipped with A/C, remove A/C condenser.
5. Disconnect air cleaner outlet hose.
6. Disconnect accelerator cable and automatic transmission kickdown cable from throttle body.
7. Disconnect all engine electrical connectors, marking for assembly reference.
8. Remove starter motor.
9. Release pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE.
10. Disconnect all engine vacuum, fuel and cooling hoses, marking for assembly reference.
11. Raise and support vehicle.
12. Drain engine oil.
13. Remove exhaust center pipe from exhaust manifold.
14. On models with manual transmissions, disconnect clutch cable and clutch housing lower plate.
15. On models with automatic transmissions, disconnect transmission fluid hoses, torque converter housing lower plate and torque converter bolts using drive plate locking tool No. J3571.
16. On all models, lower vehicle.
17. Remove engine to transmission bolts.
18. Support transmission using a suitable stand or jack. Do not support automatic transmissions under oil pan.

19. Install lifting device, Fig. 2.
20. Disconnect engine mounts, referring to ENGINE MOUNT.
21. Remove engine assembly by sliding engine toward the front side of engine compartment, then hoist engine assembly from vehicle. Before lifting engine, ensure all electrical wires, hoses and cables are marked and disconnected.
22. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS/MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS/
TIGHTENING SPECIFICATION for all torque specifications.
b. Adjust clutch pedal free travel. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Clutch, M/T/Adjustments.
c. Adjust accelerator cable and kick down cable.
d. Refill all fluid levels.
e. On models with A/C, evacuate and charge A/C system.
