The front wheel drive axle consists of an inner and outer constant velocity (CV) joint connected by an axle shaft, Fig. 1.
The differential assemblies installed to the front axle use a hypoid bevel pinion and gear. The front differential is set in an aluminum housing mounted under the chassis frame, Fig. 2.
