Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Fig. 24 Oil Pump Bolt Installation:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove radiator cooling fan, shroud, water pump pulley and water pump.
3. Remove timing belt outside cover, timing belt and tensioner.
4. Remove generator and mounting brackets.
5. Raise and support vehicle and drain oil.
6. Lock crankshaft using an appropriate gear stopper tool on the flywheel.
7. Remove crankshaft timing belt pulley.
8. Remove crankshaft timing belt pulley, key and timing belt guide.
9. Remove oil pan referring to OIL PAN for procedure.
10. Remove oil pump mounting bolts and oil pump.
11. Inspect oil pump as follows:
a. Inspect oil lip seal for wear or damage.
b. Inspect oil pump outer and inner gears, gear plates and oil pump housing for excessive wear or damage.
12. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Use oil seal guide tool No. J34853 during installation.
b. Install bolts as shown in Fig. 24.
