Gear Shift Lever Case

Disassemble

1. Remove case plate attaching screws, then the case plate, Fig. 22.
2. Remove select return spring bolts, then drive out gear shift arm retaining pin, Fig. 22.
3. Drive out limit spring pin, then the gear shift lever retaining pin.
4. Remove gear shift arm by moving gear shift shaft slightly.
5. Push gear shift shaft inward, then drive out reverse gear shift limit yoke spring pin.
6. Remove gear shift shaft from case.
7. Clean all disassembled components.

Inspection

1. Check each component for excessive wear or damage, and replace as necessary.
2. Ensure shift shaft operates smoothly in case, and repair or replace as necessary.
3. Ensure shift lever, limit yoke and shift arm fit on shift shaft and operate smoothly.

Assemble

1. Install gear shift shaft, shift lever, shift limit yoke and shift limit spring.
2. Install reverse gear limit yoke pin.
3. Install shift lever pin and return spring pin.
4. Connect straight end of shift limit spring into line groove in shift limit yoke, then connect other end of spring to spring pin, Fig. 23.
5. Install gear shift arm spring pin, then the case plug using suitable sealer, Fig. 24.
6. Install select guide pins, return springs and spring bolts. Torque return spring bolts to 17 ft. lbs. Apply suitable grease to components prior to installation.
7. Clean mating surfaces of case plate and case, then apply suitable sealant and install case plate to case.
8. Install case plate to case attaching screws, torquing to 7 ft. lbs.
9. Install reverse shift limit bolt, torquing to 24 ft. lbs. Apply Loctite to bolt prior to installation.
10. Install gear shift lever case to transmission using suitable sealer, then check operation of shift control lever, Fig. 25.
