Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Testing and Inspection
SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR1. Worn shift fork shaft.
2. Worn shift fork or synchronizer sleeve.
3. Weak or damaged location spring.
4. Worn bearing on input shaft or main shaft.
5. Worn chamfered tooth on sleeve or gear.
6. Missing circlips.
GEARS WILL NOT DISENGAGE
1. Weak or broken synchronizer spring.
2. Distorted shift shaft or shift fork.
HARD SHIFTING
1. Improper clutch pedal free travel.
2. Distorted or broken clutch disc.
3. Damaged clutch pressure plate.
4. Worn synchronizer ring.
5. Worn chamfered tooth on sleeve or gear.
6. Distorted shift shaft.
ABNORMAL NOISE
1. Inadequate or insufficient lubricant.
2. Damaged or worn bearings.
3. Damaged or worn gears.
4. Damaged or worn synchronizer ring.
5. Damaged or worn chamfered tooth on sleeve or gear.
NOISY IN 1ST GEAR
1. Damaged or worn mainshaft 1st gear or needle bearing.
2. Damaged or worn low speed synchronizer assembly.
NOISY IN 2ND GEAR
1. Damaged or worn mainshaft 2nd gear or needle bearing.
2. Damaged or worn low speed synchronizer assembly.
NOISY IN 3RD GEAR
1. Damaged or worn mainshaft 3rd gear or needle bearing.
2. Damaged or worn high speed synchronizer assembly.
NOISY IN 4TH GEAR
1. Damaged or worn input shaft 4th gear or needle bearing.
2. Damaged or worn high speed synchronizer assembly.
NOISY IN 5TH GEAR
1. Damaged or worn input shaft 5th gear or needle bearing.
2. Damaged or worn reverse synchronizer assembly.
NOISY IN REVERSE
1. Damaged or worn reverse idler gear or needle bearing.
2. Damaged or worn mainshaft reverse gear or needle bearing.
3. Damaged or worn reverse synchronizer assembly.
