System Self Diagnostics
The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) contains the RWAL self-diagnosis programming. The module is equipped with a self-diagnostic capability that can detect and isolate RWAL system failures Should a failure be detected, the EBCM sets a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that represents that specific failure.

There are eleven DTCs that can be set by the EBCM. All of these codes will cause the "BRAKE" warning lamp to illuminate.

The EBCM performs an automatic test once during each ignition cycle at engine start and during normal driving operations. If any error is detected during these tests, RWAL Brake System operation ceases and the EBCM sets a DTC which illuminates the "BRAKE" warning lamp in the instrument cluster.
