Steering Column - Removal and Installation
WARNING: Servicing the vehicle's SIR-associated systems without first disabling the airbag may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.Fig.12 Steering Column And Components:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering wheel as follows:
a. Remove horn button, then steering wheel shaft nut. Scribe a mark on the steering wheel and shaft for assembly reference.
b. Remove steering wheel using puller J1895-03, or equivalent.
c. Remove horn contact plate.
3. Remove turn signal/dimmer switch as follows:
a. Remove upper and lower column covers, then the access cover.
b. Disconnect lead wire from turn signal/dimmer switch.
c. Remove assembly screws, then the signal/dimmer assembly.
4. Disconnect lead wires from ignition switch at connector.
5. Remove column assembly lower bolts.
6. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove transmission lockout cable.
7. Remove column upper bolts, then remove column assembly.
8. Reverse procedure to install, tightening bolts/nuts to specifications.
