Differential Assembly: Description and Operation

The differential assemblies installed to the front and rear axles use a hypoid bevel pinion and gear. The rear differential, Fig. 1 is set in an axle housing. The front differential, Fig. 2 is set in an aluminum housing mounted under the chassis frame. The reduction ratio for manual transmission equipped vehicles is different from automatic transmission equipped vehicles.
All adjustments outlined for front and rear differentials are the same.
