Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Pull out glove compartment by pushing stoppers on right and left sides.
3. Remove plastic hinge pins.
4. Remove two hood release handle retaining screws and position handle out of the way.

5. Remove passenger side SIR module attaching screws and bolts, Fig. 50.
6. Remove parking brake lever bezel retaining clips and screws.

7. Disconnect electrical connectors, then remove parking brake lever bezel, Fig. 51.

8. Remove center console attaching screws and retaining clips, then the console, Fig. 52.
9. On models equipped with four speed automatic transmission, remove Power / Normal switch connector and lift console.
10. Remove ashtray.

11. Remove four heater control knobs and pull heater face plate straight out from center trim bezel, Fig. 53.
12. Twist off face plate bulb socket, then remove four screws and center trim bezel.
13. On models equipped with A/C, disconnect A/C connector.

14. Remove four radio retaining screws, then disconnect radio electrical connectors, Fig. 54.
15. Remove four screws from knee bolster trim panel and pull gently at top of panel to release two retainers.
16. Remove two knee bolster to instrument panel carrier bolts.
17. Disconnect ignition switch connector.

18. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect park lock cable from ignition switch by removing bracket retaining screw and C-clip at ignition cylinder, Fig. 55.

19. Remove four bolts from steering column to bulkhead plate, Fig. 56.

20. Remove steering column lower shaft bolt, then disconnect steering shaft from lower shaft joint, Fig. 57.
21. Remove two Torx steering column mounting bolts and lower column. Great care must be used when the steering column is serviced. Do not hammer on steering wheel or column. The front wheels must be in the straight ahead position and the ignition must be in Lock. Never support the steering column with the lower support bracket only.
22. Remove four instrument cluster bezel retaining screws.
23. Remove four instrument cluster attaching screws.
24. Disconnect three electrical connectors and speedometer cable from cluster, then remove cluster from instrument panel.
25. Disconnect mode and temperature control cables from right side of heater case.
26. Disconnect fresh/recirculation control cable from blower case.
27. Disconnect blower switch connector and heater control unit.
28. Disconnect instrument panel harness.
29. Remove one screw holding left side of instrument panel to support.
30. Remove one screw at bottom left side of instrument panel.
31. Remove two bolts from both sides of instrument panel support cover.
32. Remove two screws at bottom of instrument panel support.
33. Remove speaker grilles and instrument panel upper center cover with flat bladed screwdriver.
34. Remove three screws along top of instrument panel.
35. Pull instrument panel from support member.
36. Reverse procedure to install.
