Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Fig. 45 Exploded View Of Oil Pump.:
1. On models equipped with A/C, discharge and recover refrigerant.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove skid plate.
5. Remove front differential assembly.
6. Drain engine oil.
7. On models equipped with manual transmission, remove clutch housing lower plate.
8. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove torque converter housing lower plate.
9. Remove engine oil pan mounting bolts and oil pan.
10. Remove oil pump strainer.
11. Lower vehicle.
12. On models equipped with A/C, remove A/C drive belt, compressor and bracket.
13. Remove timing belt. Refer to Timing Components / Timing Belt / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
14. Remove oil level indicator, then oil level indicator guide tube.
15. Using tool No. J35271, or equivalent, hold crankshaft from turning while removing crankshaft timing belt gear.
16. Remove oil pump assembly.
17. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use crankshaft oil seal guide tool No. J34853, or equivalent, to install oil seal.
b. Tighten all bolts to specifications.
c. Refer to Fig. 45 for component replacement.
