Power Indicator Remains Lit

"Power" Indicator Remains Lit:

"OD/OFF" Indicator:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

When the "Power/Normal" Switch is set to Power "P," a signal is sent to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The TCM turns on the "POWER" indicator lamp in the instrument panel cluster, informing the driver that the transmission is under the "Power" shifting schedule (delaying upshifting for improved acceleration). If the button is set to Normal "N," the TCM receives a signal, the "POWER" indicator lamp goes out and the transmission goes under the Normal shift schedule (for improved fuel economy.)

TEST DESCRIPTION

Numbers below refer to the circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. Checks for a short to ground in wire between TCM and I/P gauge cluster.

2. Checks for a defective (constantly open) "Power/Normal" switch.

3. Determines if there is a short to ground in wire between the "Power/Normal" switch, or a defective TCM.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS

Check fuses for opens, and grounds for clean and tight connections.

An intermittent condition may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation.

Check for poor connections at component and inline harness connector terminal for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and for poor terminal-to-wire connections before replacing components. After repairs have been made, repeat the TCM OBD System Check to ensure the system is functioning normally.
