Control Valve Body Assembly
DISASSEMBLE
1. Manual valve (138).
2. Spacer plate (130) and gaskets (129, 132).
NOTICE: The use of a honing stone, tine sandpaper or crocus cloth is not recommended for servicing stuck valves. All valve lands have sharply machined corners that are necessary to "cleaning" the bore. If these corners are rounded, foreign material could wedge between the valve and the bore causing the valve to stick. If it is found necessary to Clean a valve "micro fine" lapping compound 900 grit or finer should be used.
Too much "lapping" of the valve will cause excessive clearances and increase the chance of a valve not operating.
DISASSEMBLE
1. Position the control valve body assembly (128) as shown on a Clean surface.
2. Remove the valve trains beginning with the upper left hand corner.
CAUTION: SOME OF THE VALVES ARE UNDER PRESSURE - COVER THE BORES WHILE REMOVING THE RETAINING PINS OR PERSONAL INJURY COULD RESULT.
3. Remove retaining pins (502) with a modified drill bit.
4. Valves, springs, and sleeves must be laid out on a Clean surface in the exact sequence they are removed.
Clean
- All valves, springs, sleeves and control valve body.
- Dry using compressed air.
Inspect
^ All valves and sleeves for:
- Porosity.
- Scoring.
- Nicks.
- Scratches.
^ Springs for damaged or distorted coils
^ Valve body casting for:
- Porosity.
- Cracks.
- Interconnected fluid passages.
- Damaged machined surfaces.
ASSEMBLE
- Control valve body assembly exactly as shown.
- Notice the position of the valve lands and sleeves position.
ASSEMBLE
1. Checkball (193) into case (101).
2. Spacer plate to case gasket (132).
3. Spacer plate (130) and spacer plate gasket (129).
- Use guide pins J 3387-2
4. Manual valve (138) and manual valve link (139).
- Long side of link into manual valve.
5. Control valve body assembly (128). Position manual valve link (139) as shown.
6. Manual detent roller (145) and bolts (155).
Tighten
- Bolts to 19 N.m (14 lb. ft.).
INSTALL OR CONNECT
7. Reinforcement plate (146) and bolts (152).
Tighten
- Bolts to 19 N.m (14 lb. ft.).
8. Governor pressure switch (137).
Tighten
- Pressure switch to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.).
9. Install a new servo cover gasket (168).
10. Install the servo cover (169) and servo cover bolts (152).
Tighten
- Bolts to 24.4 N.m (18 lb. ft.).
- Solenoid pipes (149, 150), solenoid (147) and bolts (152).
- Seals (151) onto pipes, pipes into solenoid, control valve body assembly and oil pump body.
Tighten
- Bolts to19 N.m (14 ft. lbs.).
Important
- Make sure piping does not interfere with manual valve operation.
12. Wiring harness (148).
13. Electrical connections at solenoid (147), governor pressure switch (137) and case connector (105).
