Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
FRONT HUB/BEARINGREMOVE OR DISCONNECT
^ Tools Required:
- J 42119-1 Spindle Nut Socket
- J 42119-2 Wrench Plate
- J 8092 Driver Handle
- J 37781 Front Wheel Hub Remover
- J 37772 Front Wheel Hub Bearing Race Remover
- J 2619-02 Slide Hammer
- Or Equivalent
1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Tire/wheel.
3. Brake caliper from rotor and steering knuckle by removing two caliper carrier bolts. Suspend caliper assembly with wire so as not to damage brake hose.
4. Brake rotor from wheel hub. If rotor cannot be removed by hand, install two 8 mm bolts into rotor. Tightening the bolts will force rotor off.
5. Hub end cap (Two-Wheel Drive Models).
6. Free wheel hub (Four-Wheel Drive Models).
7. Install J 42119-1 and J 42119-2 to spindle nut and wheel hub using hub bolts, aligning wrench with slots on spindle nut.
^ Tighten the hub bolts to 2.5 Nm (12.12 lb in.).
8. Rotate spindle nut counterclockwise two full turns to disengage anti-rotation spring from spindle nut.
9. Remove J 42119-1 and J 42119-2 from wheel hub.
10. Spindle nut, anti-rotation spring and spring back-up plate from spindle.
11. Wheel hub complete with bearings and oil seals from spindle. If wheel hub cannot be removed by hand, use J 37781 with J 2619-01.
12. Outer bearing from hub.
13. Wheel bearing oil seal from hub.
14. Snap ring from hub.
15. Inner bearing from hub.
16. Inner and outer bearing races from hub using J 37772 and J 8092. Remove bearing races only if they are scored or pitted.
^ Clean dirt and old grease using a suitable solvent where necessary.
INSTALL OR CONNECT

- J 37777 Front Wheel Bearing Race Installer
- J 37774 Wheel Hub Oil Seal Installer
- J 42119- 1 Spindle Nut Socket
- J 42119-2 Wrench Plate
- Or Equivalents
1. Pack inner and outer bearing assemblies with wheel bearing grease GM P/N 1051344, or equivalent.
2. New inner and outer bearing races (if old races were removed) to hub using J 37777 and J 8092.
3. Inner bearing to hub.
4. Snap ring to hub.
5. Wheel bearing oil seal to hub using J 37774.
6. Outer bearing to hub.
7. Wheel hub complete with bearings and oil seals to spindle.
8. Spring back-up plate, anti-rotation spring.
9. Spindle nut to spindle.
10. Install J 42119-1 and J 42119-2 to spindle nut and wheel hub using hub bolts, aligning wrench with slots on spindle nut.
^ Tighten the spindle nut to 210 Nm (155 lb ft).
11. Hub end cap (Two-Wheel Drive Models).
12. Free wheel hub (Four-Wheel Drive Models).
13. Brake rotor to wheel hub.
14. Brake caliper to rotor and knuckle; secure with two caliper carrier bolts.
^ Tighten brake caliper carrier bolts to 88 Nm (65 lb ft).
15. Tire/wheel.
16. Lower vehicle.
