Flywheel/Torque Converter Vibration Test Procedure
Inspect1. With manual selector in "P" (park) position, start engine.
2. With engine at idle, note any abnormal vibration.
3. Shift selector lever to "N" and note any abnormal vibration.
4. Return shift selector lever to "P" position and turn ignition switch off.
5. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
6. Remove two flywheel inspection cover bolts, one case left stiffener four bolts and flywheel inspection cover.
7. Remove three flywheel-to-torque converter bolts.
8. Rotate torque converter 120 degrees (1/3 turn).
9. Install the three flywheel-to-torque converter bolts.
- Tighten:
^ Flywheel-to-torque converter bolts to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).
10. Install flywheel inspection cover and secure with two bolts.
- Tighten flywheel inspection cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
11. Left case stiffener; secure with four bolts.
- Tighten left case stiffener bolts to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
12. Install flywheel inspection plug.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. With manual selector in "P" (park) position, start engine.
15. If any abnormal vibration still exists, repeat this procedure until the best possible balance is obtained. For more information on torque converter evaluation, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSIS.
