Line Pressure Check
^ Tools Required:- J 21867 Universal Pressure Gage Set
- J 35752 Oil Pressure Gage Adapter
- 90° Male Elbow - Inverted Flare Brass Fitting (3/16" Tube O.D., 1/8" Male Pipe Thread)
Important: This test should only be performed at a normal operating fluid temperature of 70 to 80° C (158 to 176° F).
1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Remove the Three-Way Catalytic (TWC) converter.
3. Remove the line pressure tap bolt from transmission case.
4. Install a J 35752 (oil pressure gage adapter) into the line pressure tap.
5. Install a 90° male elbow inverted flare brass fitting with a 3/16" Tube O.D. and 1/8" male pipe thread into the J 35752 (oil pressure gage adapter).
6. Install a J 21867 (universal pressure gage set) into the brass fitting.
7. Install TWC.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Route the J 21867 hose over the front fender and through the driver's window so that it can be read from the passenger compartment.
10. Apply parking brake and block vehicle wheels.
11. Press brake pedal fully and start engine.
CAUTION: For testing line pressure at idle and stall speeds, the brake pedal must be fully pressed throughout the measurement procedure. Failure to do so could result in personal injury and/or property damage due to possible unexpected vehicle movement.
12. Move shifter to Reverse (R) and observe line pressure reading on gage at engine idle speed (750-850 rpm).
13. With shifter still in Reverse (R), press accelerator pedal fully (wide open throttle) and observe line pressure.
NOTICE: DO NOT run engine at stall speed for more than five seconds continuously or engine oil and transmission fluid temperatures may become excessively high, causing transmission damage.
14. Release accelerator pedal and let engine return to idle speed.
15. Move shifter to Drive (D) and observe line pressure reading on gage at engine idle speed (750-850 rpm).
16. With shifter still in Drive (D), press accelerator pedal fully (wide open throttle) and observe line pressure.
17. Place the manual selector in Park (P) position and turn ignition switch to LOCK.
18. Remove the J 21867 from the passenger compartment.
19. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
CAUTION: Allow the TWC converter to cool down for at least one hour prior to removing it from the vehicle. Personal injury and/or burns may occur because the TWC surface will be extremely hot.
20. Remove the TWC converter.
21. Remove the J 21867 (universal pressure gage set) from the brass fitting.
22. Remove the brass fitting from the J 35752 (oil pressure gage adapter).
23. Remove the J 35752 (oil pressure gage adapter) from the line pressure tap.
24. Install the line pressure tap bolt into the line pressure tap.
- Tighten line pressure tap bolt to 17 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
25. Install the TWC.
26. Lower vehicle.
Evaluation
- Compare line pressure test results with the LINE PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS. If line pressure is not as specified, refer to the LINE PRESSURE DIAGNOSIS.
