Flywheel Removal

REMOVAL
1. Transmission from cylinder block.
2. Clutch from flywheel (manual transmission equipped vehicles).
3. Inspect:
^ If the ring gear is damaged, cracked or worn, replace the flywheel.
^ If the surface contacting the clutch disc is damaged or excessively worn, replace the flywheel (manual transmission equipped vehicles).
3. Mark the flywheel-to-engine position.
4. Six flywheel retaining bolts and flywheel from crankshaft.
5. Nylon clutch pilot bushing from crankshaft.
6. Clean the grease and dirt from flywheel outer surfaces using suitable solvent.


INSTALLATION
1. Flywheel to crankshaft, aligning the flywheel-to-engine marks.
2. Apply GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent, to the flywheel retaining bolt threads.

CAUTION: Do not apply an excessive amount of sealant to the flywheel retaining bolt threads. Applying too much sealant will result in the sealant overflowing the bolt seat. This could cause the bolt to break loose during vehicle operation.

3. Flywheel retaining bolts to flywheel.
^ Tighten the flywheel retaining bolts to 78 Nm (58 lb ft).
4. Clutch to flywheel (manual transmission equipped vehicles).
5. Transmission to engine.
