Accumulator(S)

Three accumulators are used to avoid abrupt shifting of the forward clutch, direct clutch, and second brake. These accumulators consist of a spring loaded piston inside a cylinder. Line pressure works against the piston and compresses it. Therefore, it modulates, or progressive applies, line pressure as the spring compresses. This creates a "shock absorber" providing a gradual application of brakes/discs within the transmission.
