Reverse and Drive Engagement Time Lag
1. Press brake pedal firmly.2. Ensure that the manual selector is in the Park (P) position.
3. Start and warm-up engine to normal operating temperature.
4. Move manual selector from Park (P) to Neutral (N) position.
5. With a stop watch ready, move manual selector from Neutral (N) to Drive (D) position.
6. Measure the time from the moment shifter is moved until gear engagement is felt.
7. Move manual selector from Drive (D) to Neutral (N) position.
8. With a stop watch ready, move manual selector from Neutral (N) to Reverse (R) position.
9. Measure the time from the moment shifter is moved until gear engagement is felt.
10. Return manual selector to Park (P) position.
11. Turn ignition switch to LOCK.
Evaluation:
Shifting From Engagement Time
N to D Less than 1.2 seconds
N to R Less than 1.5 seconds
Compare observed engagement times with time lag test table. Reverse and drive engagements should be immediate but not harsh. If reverse or drive is slow to engage or seems to harsh, refer to Transmission Diagnosis table.
