04-059

October 12, 2004

Applies To:
2004 Pilot - From VIN 5FNYF1...4B008638 thru 5FNYF1...4B010233

Product Update: Pilot Fuse Box Label

BACKGROUND

The label for the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box has incorrect information. The No. 11 fuse should be labeled 15A IG COIL; it should not be the 7.5A VTM-4 fuse. And the No. 13 fuse should be labeled 7.5A STARTER SIGNAL; it should not be blank.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

All owners of affected vehicles will be mailed a notification of this recall, along with the correct fuse box label. In the notification, owners are asked to place the new fuse box label over the existing label. Any owner not comfortable installing the label themselves are asked to return to their dealer to have the correct label installed. An example of the customer notification is shown in this service bulletin.

Only 1,528 vehicles within the VIN range are affected by this campaign. To verify that a vehicle is eligible, check at least one of these items:

^ The customer has a notification letter.

^ The vehicle is shown on your campaign responsibility report.

^ The vehicle is shown as eligible on an iN VIN status inquiry.

In addition to these verification items, check for a punch mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN. A punch mark in that location means this product update has already been completed.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Inspect the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box label. If the label has incorrect information on it, apply a corrected label over it.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Check the information on the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box label. The label is on the driver's kick panel.

^ If the No. 11 fuse is labeled 15A and the No. 13 fuse is labeled 7.5A, the fuse box label is correct. Go to step 4.

^ If the No. 11 fuse is labeled 7.5A and the No. 13 fuse is blank, the fuse box label is incorrect. Go to step 2.

2. Using alcohol and a clean shop towel, clean the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box label on the driver's kick panel. Allow the alcohol to dry.

3. Peel off the backing from the new label, and apply it directly over the original label. Press the new label firmly to make sure it sticks.

4. Center-punch a completion mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN.
