Expansion Valve: Service and Repair
Fig. 15 Evaporator Case Removal (Typical):
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Discharge refrigerant from system.
3. Remove glove box frame and glove box.
4. Disconnect receiver line and suction hose from evaporator and cap all openings.
5. Remove grommets, Fig. 15.
6. Loosen right sealing band, then slide out to the left, Fig. 15.
7. Remove blower mounting bolts, and if equipped, screws in outside air door diaphragm. Remove blower assembly.
8. Remove left sealing band, disconnect wires and if necessary disconnect drain tube.
9. Remove evaporator attaching bolts and remove evaporator housing.

10. Remove self-tapping screws and clips from evaporator housing, Fig. 16.
11. Remove capillary tube of thermostat from evaporator fins.
12. Separate housing and cover and remove evaporator core with expansion valve attached.
13. Reverse procedure to install. Use new O-rings lubricated with refrigerant oil.
14. Leak test, evacuate and charge system.
