Heater Core: Service and Repair

1. Disable coded theft protection system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/CODED THEFT PROTECTION DISARMING.
2. Disarm airbag as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable.
4. Snap open cable clip, then disconnect heater valve cable from heater valve.
5. Disconnect heater hoses at heater, then remove tow heater unit mounting nuts from engine compartment side.
6. Remove instrument panel as described in BODY ELECTRICAL SAFETY AND ENTERTAINMENT/DASH PANEL SERVICE section.
7. Remove heat duct or evaporator.
8. Remove tow heater mounting bolts and heater assembly.

9. Remove heater assembly and defroster duct, Fig. 18.
10. Remove pipe clamp and core clamp attaching screws.
11. Pull heater core from heater housing. Ensure care is taken not to bend inlet and outlet pipes during removal.
12. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Do not interchange inlet and outlet hoses.
b. Connect all cables and ensure they are properly adjusted.
c. After refilling cooling system, refer to Cooling System/Service and Repair section.
