SRS Indicator Comes On With SRS DTC(s) 13-3, 14-3
SYMPTOM
The SRS indicator is on and one or both of these DTCs are set:
^ SRS DTC 13-3 (no signal from the driver's side impact sensor)
^ SRS DTC 14-3 (no signal from the front passenger's side impact sensor)
PROBABLE CAUSE
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) or electrostatic discharge (ESD) is being introduced into one or both of the side impact sensor circuits.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install the components of the side impact sensor repair kit.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
DIAGNOSIS
Use the PGM Tester to clear the DTC(s).
^ If the DTC(s) reset immediately, disregard this service bulletin, and refer to the troubleshooting procedures in the Restraints section of the 1998-02 Accord Service Manual.
^ If the cleared DTC(s) do not set again, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE A - 4-Door Models or REPAIR PROCEDURE B - 2-Door Models, as appropriate.
REPAIR PROCEDURE A - 4-DOOR MODELS
1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down your customer's radio station presets.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then wait at least 3 minutes before you start work.
4. Unplug the driver's and front passenger's airbag connectors (see page 23-38 of the 1998-02 Accord Service Manual).
5. Unplug the driver's and front passenger's side airbag connectors (see page 23-38).
6. Remove the center console (see page 20-83).
7. Unplug the 15P, 14P, and 8P connectors from the SRS unit.
8. Remove the three Torx bolts from the SRS unit, then remove the SRS unit by pulling it off of the bracket.
9. Remove the front seat (driver's or front passenger's) (see page 20-99).
10. Remove the front door sill trim (see page 20-75).
11. Remove the center pillar trim (see page 20-75).
12. Remove the lower seat belt anchor bolt (see page 23-7).
13. Lift up the carpet, then remove the side impact sensor plate (two mounting bolts).
14. Unplug the SRS floor harness 2P connector from the side impact sensor.
15. Use a Torx T30 bit to remove the two Torx bolts, then remove the side impact sensor.
16. Repeat steps 9 thru 15 to remove the other side impact sensor.
17. Note carefully the routing and clip locations of the SRS floor harness, then unclip and remove the harness.
18. Install the new SRS floor harness. Carefully route and clip the new harness exactly the same as the original harness.
19. Install the new SRS unit with the new Torx bolts.
Torque the bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).
20. Plug the 18P, 14P, and 8P connectors into the new SRS unit. Push each connector until it clicks into place.
21. Insert the new Torx bolt through the mounting hole in the new side impact sensor, then slip the 6 mm washer from the kit onto the end of the bolt. Mount the new side impact sensor to the door sill using the forward mounting hole used by the original sensor. Make sure you mount the sensor as level as possible (+/- 3 degrees). Torque the bolt to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).
22. Peel off the backing from one of the 30 mm adhesive-backed dust seals, and stick the dust seal over the rearward mounting hole used by the original sensor. Stick two more dust seals over the two open holes in the body just behind the new sensor.
23. Plug the SRS floor harness 2P connector into the new side impact sensor.
24. Reinstall the side impact sensor plate. Torque the bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).
25. Reinstall the lower seat belt anchor bolt.
26. Reinstall the center pillar trim.
27. Reinstall the front door sill trim.
28. Reinstall the front seat.
29. Repeat steps 21 thru 25 to install the other new side impact sensor.
30. Reinstall the center console.
31. Plug in the driver's and front passenger's side airbag connectors.
32. Plug in the driver's and front passenger's airbag connectors.
33. Reconnect the negative battery cable, and turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
34. Initialize the OPDS unit (see S/B 02-052, Initializing the Occupant Position Detection System).
REPAIR PROCEDURE B - 2-DOOR MODELS
1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down your customer's radio station presets.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then wait at least 3 minutes before you start work.
4. Unplug the driver's and front passenger's airbag connectors (see page 23-38 of the 1998-02 Accord Service Manual).
5. Unplug the driver's and front passenger's side airbag connectors (see page 23-38).
6. Remove the center console (see page 20-83).
7. Unplug the 18P, 14P, and 8P connectors from the SRS unit.
8. Remove the three Torx bolts from the SRS unit, then remove the SRS unit by pulling it off of the bracket.
9. Remove the front seat (driver's or front passenger's) (see page 20-99).
10. Remove the front door sill trim (see page 20-74).
11. Remove the rear side trim panel (see page 20-74).
12. Remove the lower seat belt anchor bolt (see page 23-5).
13. Lift up the carpet, then remove the side impact sensor plate (two clips).
14. Unplug the SRS floor harness 2P connector from the side impact sensor.
15. Use a Torx T30 bit to remove the two Torx bolts, then remove the side impact sensor.
16. Repeat steps 9 thru 15 to remove the other side impact sensor.
17. Note carefully the routing and clip locations of the two SRS floor harnesses, then unclip and remove the harnesses.
18. Install the new SRS floor harnesses. Carefully route and clip the new harnesses exactly the same as the original harnesses.
NOTE:
Make sure you route the two harnesses correctly. The passenger's-side harness has two extra gray connectors for the OPDS unit.
19. Install the new SRS unit with the new Torx bolts.
Torque the bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).
20. Plug the 18P, 14P, and 8P connectors into the new SRS unit. Push each connector until it clicks into place.
21. Insert the new Torx bolt through the mounting hole in the new side impact sensor, then slip the 6 mm washer from the kit onto the end of the bolt. Mount the new side impact sensor to the door sill using the rearward mounting hole used by the original sensor. Make sure you mount the sensor as level as possible (+/- 3 degrees). Torque the bolt to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).
22. Peel off the backing from one of the 30 mm adhesive-backed dust seals, and stick the dust seal over the forward mounting hole used by the original sensor. Stick two more dust seals over the two open holes in the body just ahead of the new sensor.
23. Plug the SRS floor harness 2P connector into the new side impact sensor.
24. Reinstall the side impact sensor plate.
25. Reinstall the lower seat belt anchor bolt.
26. Reinstall the rear side trim panel.
27. Reinstall the front door sill trim.
28. Reinstall the front seat.
29. Repeat steps 21 thru 25 to install the other new side impact sensor.
30. Reinstall the center console.
31. Plug in the driver's and front passenger's side airbag connectors.
32. Plug in the driver's and front passenger's airbag connectors.
33. Reconnect the negative battery cable, and turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
34. Initialize the OPDS unit (see S/B 02-052, Initializing the Occupant Position Detection System).
