2002 Civic HX ECM/PCM Software Update

(Supersedes 02-044, dated August 6 2002, to update the information marked by asterisks)

BACKGROUND

The ECM/PCM software in the 2002 Civic HX causes the EGR monitoring system to malfunction. This does not comply with emissions regulations.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

*Use the HDS to update the software in the ECM/PCM. Use the software version from the January 2002 or later Hondanet CD.*

Update all affected vehicles that are currently in dealer inventory and all affected customer vehicles when they come in for maintenance or repair. Do a VIN Status Inquiry to verify eligibility.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify that the January 2002 or later Hondanet CD has been loaded in your Hondanet 2000 master terminal. If not, load the CD. The instructions are included with the CD.

*2. Update the vehicle's ECM/PCM with the HDS.* Refer to service bulletin 01-023, Using the Honda Interface Module to Update the ECM/PCM, found under Tools.





3. Center-punch a completion mark above the tenth character (2) of the engine compartment VIN.
