DTC P1891: Problem in Start Clutch Control System

NOTE: Record all freeze data and review General Troubleshooting Information before you troubleshoot.

1. Check whether the OBD II scan tool indicates another code.
Does the OBD II scan tool indicate the another code?
YES-Do the DTC Troubleshooting for the indicated code(s). Recheck for DTC P1891 after troubleshooting.
NO-Go to step 2.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Disconnect solenoid harness connector (8P).
4. Start the engine, and shift to the [D] position.
5. Check whether the vehicle moves.
Does the vehicle move?
YES-Go to step 6.
NO-Replace the start clutch.
6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Connect solenoid harness connector (8P).
8. Start the engine, and shift to the [D] position.
9. Check whether the vehicle creeps and check the creeping speed on level ground.
Does the vehicle creep and is the creeping speed about 3 mph (5 km/h)?
YES-Go to step 10.
NO-Replace the lower valve body assembly.
10. Measure the stall speed RPM in the [D] position.
Is the stall speed over 3,500 rpm?
YES-Replace the start-clutch.
NO-Go to step 11.
11. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan conies on), if necessary.
12. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
13. Disconnect solenoid harness connector (8P).
14. Start the engine, and shift to the D position.
15. Check whether the vehicle moves.
Does the vehicle move?
YES-The system is OK at this time. If necessary, substitute a known-good TCM and recheck.
NO-Replace the start clutch.
