Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes
How to Check for DTCs1. If the IMA system indicator (A) stays on, turn the ignition switch OFF. Connect the Honda PGM Tester (B) to the 16P Data Link Connector (C) located under the passenger's side ('01 - 03 models: driver's side) of the dashboard.

2. If you have the Honda PGM Tester software version S.N.000 or later, read the Diagnostic Trouble Code with the tester, and go to step 6. If you have earlier software, go to step 3.
3. Short the SCS circuit to body ground using the Honda PGM Tester.
4. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
5. Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC): The IMA system indicator lamp indicates a DTC by the length and the number of blinks. The lamp can indicate multiple problems by blinking separate DTCs, one after another. DTCs 1 through 9 are indicated by individual short blinks. DTCs 10 and above are indicated by a series of long and short blinks. One long blink equals 10 short blinks.
6. Refer to the DTC Troubleshooting Index, and begin the appropriate troubleshooting procedure.
