ECM Reprogramming Procedure
ECM REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:GDS INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
WARNING:
Make sure that the battery symbol indicator at the bottom right tray of the GDS laptop shows at least 25% so there will be enough power to complete the reprogram. If the indicator shows less than 25%, charge the GDS laptop by connecting the power adaptor cable for at least � hour or leave it connected during the reprogram procedure.
1. Connect the USB cable between the GDS laptop USB port and the VCI.
NOTE:
When performing the reprogramming using the GDS, wireless communication between the VCI and GDS laptop cannot be used; you must connect the USB cable between the GDS laptop and the VCI.
2. Connect the VCI cable to the vehicle's DLC connector; to access the vehicle's connector you must remove the front cover to the left below the steering wheel.
3. Turn on the VCI and GDS laptop, and then perform reprogramming in accordance with the instructions of the following procedure:
AUTOMATIC REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:
IMPORTANT:
You should always perform a GDS ECM update by Auto Mode as it has error checking to ensure the correct data is flashed in the vehicle. Do not use Manual Mode unless you experience a failure during the reflash process and need to reflash again, but it is essential under this condition the correct ECM is selected for the vehicle, or else it may not run.
1. Enter the vehicle information either automatically by pressing the VIN Auto Detect button or if it does not work then manually enter the vehicle model, model year, and select ENGINE as the system:
2. Select ECU Upgrade:
3. Select Auto Mode then ENGINE at the left ECU Upgrade column and you will get this screen:
4. After touching OK it will read the ROM ID as follows:
5. After the Current ROM ID is selected:
^ Update Event #132 for 06-07MY EP Entourage (K-Line)
^ Update Event #126 for 07MY CM Santa Fe 3.3L (K-Line)
^ Update Event #128 for 08-09 CM Santa Fe 3.3L (CAN)
6. After clicking the Upgrade button, read Information then click OK.
7. The vehicle battery voltage is checked to make sure it is at least 12 volts to ensure reliable update results. Click OK if the results indicate Voltage is OK.
NOTE:
If voltage is below 12 volts, click Cancel and then run the engine to ensure an adequate battery charge state for reliable update results.
8. Update will begin and the progress of the update will appear on the bar graph.
9. Update will occur until 100% is reached on the bar graph. Turn the ignition key OFF for 10 seconds, place it back in the ON position and then click OK to continue according to Information displayed on the screen.
10. Click OK on the final screen, which indicates update is complete.
11. Check for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) and erase the DTC(s) present.
12. Start the engine to confirm proper operation of the vehicle.
C. MANUAL UPDATE PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
Manual update should be performed only if automatic update fails.
1. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position, pull out the PCM (ECM) fuse from the engine compartment junction box or disconnect the battery negative cable to reset the control unit before performing manual update. Turn the ignition key back to the ON position.
2. Within the ECU Upgrade screen, select Manual Mode in the left column, then select the appropriate update event:
^ Update Event #132 for 2006-2007 EP Entourage
^ Update Event #126 for 2007 CM Santa Fe 3.3L (K-Line)
^ Update Event #128 for 2008-2009 CM Santa Fe 3.3L (CAN)
3. Select the appropriate control unit part number with reference to the above ROM ID Information Table and click OK
4. Enter the appropriate password from the table above then click OK.
5. The vehicle battery voltage is checked to make sure it is at least 12 volts to ensure reliable update results. Click OK if the results indicate Voltage is OK.
