Procedure

PROCEDURE:

1. Open the driver's door and partially remove the front door weatherstrip (A) bordering the dash pad side cover as shown.





2. Remove the dash pad side cover.





3. Remove the knee bolster cover retaining screw (C) and release the cover lock (D). Lower the knee bolster cover by pulling straight out and down.





4. Remove all of the harness connectors leading to the multi-switch panel.

NOTE:
Some of the connectors on this switch panel are physically identical in shape. Pay special attention to the color of the connector body and the various colored control stickers on the switch housings (i.e. the green connector body goes to the connector housing with the green control sticker, etc.)





5. Remove the knee bolster by removing the (4) 10mm bolts (F) as shown.





6. Remove the steering column shroud by first removing the (3) screws (G) as shown.





7. Gently squeeze the sides of the upper half of the shroud to separate the upper and lower halves. Remove and set aside the upper half of the shroud. Disconnect the power tilt & telescope switch connector from the lower half and set aside the lower half of the shroud.





8. Remove the ignition switch cover (H) by gently pulling it straight out.





9. Remove the steering column shaft support retaining nuts (I) and bolts (J) and slightly lower the steering column to get access to the tilt and telescope limit switch connectors.

NOTE:
Re-assembly tightening torque for the nuts and bolts: 10 ~ 13 lb.ft.








10. Locate the tilt and telescope limit switches, trace the wires back to their connectors, and remove the connector bodies (K & L) from the column by releasing the connector's lock tab anchors.





11. Cut and remove the tilt motor connector harness wire tie.

NOTE:
The location of the wire tie and the adjacent harness to which it is attached. The new limit switch will be re-attached to the same harness.





12. Remove the telescope limit switch (O) and tilt limit switch (N) by removing the 4 screws as shown. Note the position of the steel bracket held in place by the tilt switch lower mounting screw. This bracket provides a track for the telescope switch and must be re-installed with the new switches in the same position.





13. Using the appropriate tool, lift up the tilt motor connector's pin lock as shown and set it aside.





14. Locate the tilt limit switch's wires (P, Q, R) on the back of the tilt motor connector as shown.

P - Red with white stripe
Q - Black with white stripe
R - Brown with white stripe





15. Using the appropriate tool, remove the tilt limit switch wires from the connector.





16. Insert the new limit switch's pins into the connector body as shown, pin for pin.





NOTE:
Firmly insert the pins, until a confirmation 'click' is heard and felt.

P - Red with white stripe
Q - Black with white stripe
R - Brown with white stripe





17. Lock the connector pins on the tilt motor connector by pushing the connector pin lock back in place. Reconnect the tilt motor connector and install the tilt motor connector to the connector bracket.





18. Using the appropriate tool, lift up the telescope motor connector's pin lock as shown and set it aside.





19. Locate the telescope limit switch's pins.

S - Red with white stripe
T - Black with white stripe
U - Brown with white stripe

PROCEDURE:

3. Remove the knee bolster cover retaining screw (C) and release the cover lock (D). Lower the knee bolster cover by pulling straight out and down.

15. Using the appropriate tool, remove the tilt limit switch wires from the connector.





16. Insert the new limit switch's pins into the connector body as shown, pin for pin.





NOTE:
Firmly insert the pins, until a confirmation 'click' is heard and felt.

R - Brown with white stripe





17. Lock the connector pins on the tilt motor connector by pushing the connector pin lock back in place. Reconnect the tilt motor connector and install the tilt motor connector to the connector bracket.





18. Using the appropriate tool, lift up the telescope motor connector's pin lock as shown and set it aside.





19. Locate the telescope limit switch's pins.

S - Red with white stripe
T - Black with white stripe
U - Brown with white stripe





20. Using the appropriate tool, remove the telescope limit switch wires from the connector.





21. Insert the new telescope limit switch pins into the connector body as shown, pin for pin.

NOTE:
Firmly insert the pins, until a confirmation 'click' is heard and felt.





22. Lock the connector pins back in place by pushing the connector pin lock. Re-connect the telescope motor connector and install the telescope motor connector to the connector bracket.





23. Attach the tilt motor connector wire to the adjacent harness about 40mm (1.5 in) from the connector body with the wire tire supplied in the kit.





24. Check steering column tilt & telescopic functions by first fully extending the column and adjusting fully UP then DOWN, several times. Next, fully retract the column and adjust fully UP then DOWN, several times.

25. Install all removed components in the reverse order of removal.
