Servcie Procedure





1. Record the radio station presets, and disconnect the vehicle negative battery cable from the battery. Wait at least three minutes before beginning work.








2. Using a T40 Torx tool, remove the two mounting bolts located at the side of the steering wheel.

Tightening Torque for Mounting Bolts:
0.8 ~ 1.1 kgf.m (7.9 ~ 10.8 Nm; 5.8 ~ 8.0 lb.ft)





3. Disconnect the horn connector and the two Driver's Air Bag Module connectors. Remove the Driver's Air Bag Module.

CAUTION:
The removed air bag module should be stored in a clean, dry place with the pad cover facing up.





4. Remove the clock spring harness connector and the steering wheel lock nut.

NOTE:
Mark the steering wheel and shaft before removal to aid during reinstallation.

Tightening Torque for The Lock Nut::
40 - 50 Nm (4.0 ~ 5.0 kgf.m; 29 ~ 36 lb.ft)





5. Carefully remove the steering wheel using Special Service Tool SST 09561-11001.

CAUTION:
Do not hammer on the steering wheel to remove. This action may damage the steering column.

NOTE:

6. Loosen the five (5) screws from the steering column shroud.





7. Separate and remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.





8. Disconnect the three clock spring connectors. Release the three clips and remove the clock spring.





9. Disconnect one connector and remove the Turn Signal Switch.





10. Using a hand file or dremel tool, file the rear edge of the square opening in the steering column until there is a 2.5 mm +/- 0.5mm clearance to the Turn Signal Switch Lever.





11. Use a Feeler Gauge to verify the 2.5 mm +/- 0.5mm clearance.





12. Remove any burrs from the rear edge of the square opening and remove filings by blowing air in the outward direction, away from the bearings at the column upper shaft.

13. Reinstall all removed parts and connect all connectors in the reverse order of removal.

14. Reconnect the battery cable and verify the turn signal switch and all components that have been removed or disconnected function correctly.

15. Reprogram the radio stations and reset the clock.
