Cowl Top Cover Mounting Change
The cowl top cover may fit loosely on some Elantras produced prior to July 3, 1993. In order to correct this condition, some of the clips have been changed and extra clips added. If a new part is required for a vehicle produced prior to July 3, 1993, use the rework procedure shown.
REWORK PROCEDURE: (New part to previous vehicle)
1. Place the cowl top cover on the vehicle to verify that there are no mounting holes to receive the two outside clips on each part.
2. Trim those clips to remove them from the cowl top cover assembly.
3. Clean the area around the clips with alcohol or equivalent solvent on both the cover and the body.
4. Apply a 1" (25 mm) diameter spot of windshield adhesive in the cut-off clip locations.
5. Mount the cowl top cover assembly onto the vehicle. Be sure the cowl top cover has sufficient contact with the windshield adhesive.
6. Secure the outer ends of the cowl top cover assembly to the vehicle with masking tape. Do not disturb the vehicle or allow it to become wet for 2 to 3 hours, or as recommended by the adhesive manufacturer.
