Rear Package Tray - Squeaks/Rattles on Rough Roads

Group: TRIM

Number: 94-80-003

Date: JULY, 1994

Model: 1992-1993 ELANTRA

Subject:
SQUEAK AND RATTLE ELIMINATION FROM REAR PACKAGE TRAY

CONDITION:

Elantra vehicles produced prior to September 21, 1993, may squeak and rattle when driving over rough roads due to the package tray trim vibrating against the metal shelf panel support below it. Vehicles produced after September 21, 1993 have thicker foam to prevent this condition.

CORRECTION:

1. Remove the rear seat, center high mounted stop lamp, speakers and grilles.
Then remove the package tray trim assembly.

2. Apply stops of "camper shell tape"* or an equivalent adhesive backed closed cell foam tape to cover the high spots of the metal shelf panel support. Make sure the center high mounted lamps and speaker wires have sufficient foam around them.

3. Reinstall all of the above mentioned components.

4. Road test the vehicle to verify that the complaint has been resolved.
