Group: ENGINE MECHANICAL

Number: 93-20-006

Date: MAY, 1993

Model: SONATA DOHC & ELANTRA

Subject:
DOHC ENGINE VACUUM HOSE RE-ROUTING

DESCRIPTION

The thermo valve assembly vacuum hoses may be damaged by excessive heat as a result of direct contact with the engine block.

Should a vehicle experience such a condition, this procedure will re-route the vacuum hoses to avoid contact with the engine block.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Caution:
Before beginning this procedure, the engine should be allowed to cool to reduce the possibility of injury from the hot engine components.

1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the thermo valve assembly.

2. Re-route the vacuum hoses to the left side of the water outlet fitting assembly.

3. Turn the thermo valve assembly clockwise until it reaches 10~ +/- 5~ above horizontal as shown in the figure. If the thermo valve assembly cannot be tightened clockwise to this position, remove the thermo valve and tape the threads with teflon tape. Re-install the thermo valve and tighten to the new position explained above.

4. After adjusting the direction of the thermovalve assembly, re-connect the vacuum hoses to the thermo valve assembly.
