PASSIVE SEAT BELT SYSTEM TRACK LUBRICATION AND DIAGNOSIS
This Technical Service Bulletin provides information on the track lubrication and diagnosis of the passive seat belt system.
SEAT BELT TRACK LUBRICATION
The passive seat belt track should be greased periodically to ensure smooth, quiet operation. This maintenance should be performed every 7500 miles or five months, or if a chattering noise develops when the belt is moving along the track.
Use Hyundai lithium/teflon based grease (Part No. 00240-YO800, 30cc syringe with curved tip or Part No. 00240-Y0810, 1/4 oz. tube with curved tip). Each track requires about 2.5 to 3cc of grease, for a total of about 6cc per vehicle (1/4 oz. = 7cc).
PROCEDURE:
1. With the front doors open, disconnect the seat belt Emergency Release Device from the seat belt transport slider and turn the ignition switch to the "on" position.
2. The slider should be at the "A" pillar. Apply the grease to the upper track by making a sedes of 12, 1/4 inch diameter dots spaced equally along the length of the track as shown in the figure.
3. Grease the 5 points along the lower track with 1/4 inch dots as shown in the figure above.
4. Cycle the unit 2-3 times by opening and closing the doors.
5. With doors open, inspect the slider. If there is any build up of grease, wipe off excess to prevent contamination of the interior trim.
6. Reconnect the seat belt Emergency Release Device to the seat belt transport device.
7. Raise the hood and place a punch mark over the seventh (7th) character on the firewall identification plate. This will indicate that the campaign procedures have been completed.
