Shift Cable: Service and Repair

1. Remove console box.

2. Remove shift knob, Fig. 5.
3. Disconnect position indicator light, then remove shift lever indicator assembly.
4. Disconnect cable from lever by removing split pin.
5. Remove outer cable clip from cable support on shifter assembly.
6. Remove bolts from shift lever assembly and lift assembly from floor.
7. Raise and support vehicle, then remove cable support bolts and nuts.
8. Lower vehicle, then disconnect cable from transaxle and remove cable from vehicle.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Place shift lever and Park Neutral Position (PNP) switch in Neutral position.
b. Connect cable to shift lever, then install and tighten all outer cable mounts and guides.
c. Pull on inner cable to ensure all slack is removed, then connect cable to PNP switch arm, loosen and move adjustment pin on PNP switch arm, if necessary, to ensure slack free installation.

d. Lubricate contact cam shown in Fig. 6 with a suitable chassis grease, then ensure dimension A is 0.598 to 0.625 inch.
