Deployment

If vehicle is to be scrapped, junked or otherwise disposed of, deploy the air bag inside of the vehicle. A loud noise will result from air bag deployment. Therefore, if any one is nearby, give warning of impending deployment. A large amount of gas will be produced upon deployment, select a well ventilated area for deployment, away from fire or smoke detectors. Before deploying air bag, ensure no one is in or near the vehicle. Always wear safety glasses. Immediately following deployment, the air bag will be hot, wait at least 30 minutes before handling. Do not inhale gas from air bag deployment. When the vehicle will no longer be driven, the following procedure may be used:
1. Open all windows and move vehicle to isolated spot.
2. Disconnect battery cables, then remove battery from vehicle.
3. Wait ten minutes before proceeding.
4. Remove rear console assembly.
5. Remove air bag system control module connector.

6. With battery end of deployment tool No. 09574A-34100, or equivalent, disconnected, Fig. 6, connect deployment tool and air bag system harness checker tool No. 09574A-34000, or equivalent, Fig. 7, to air bag system control module harness side connector, Fig. 8.
7. At a location as far away from vehicle as possible, connect two terminals of deployment tool to battery.
8. Push deployment tool button and deploy air bag.
