Removal

WARNING: With timing belt removed, avoid turning camshaft or crankshaft. If movement is required, exercise extreme caution to avoid valve damage caused by piston contact.

NOTE:
The manufacturer recommends replacement of the timing belt every 60,000 miles.




TIMING BELT REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Loosen the water pump pulley bolt.
3. Loosen the alternator bolt.
4. Remove the water pump pulley and belt.
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
6. Remove the timing belt cover.




7. Move the timing belt tensioner pulley toward the water pump. and temporarily secure it.
8. Remove the timing belt from the camshaft sprocket.
9. Remove the camshaft sprocket.
10. Remove the timing belt.




NOTE: It the timing belt is reused, make an arrow mark indicating the turning direction (or the front of the engine) to make sure that the belt is reinstalled in the same direction as before.

11. Remove the crankshaft sprocket bolts. Remove the crank shaft sprocket and flange.
12. Remove the timing belt tensioner.
