Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation

PURPOSE/OPERATION
To collect and store fuel vapors (hydrocarbons) until they can be burned during engine operation. Prevents fuel vapor from entering the atmosphere. While the engine is not in operation fuel vapors are collected and stored in the charcoal canister. During driving the fuel vapors are drawn into the surge tank through the purge control solenoid valve.
