Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

Refer to Technician Safety Information for Air Bag Arming and Disarming.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air bag module retaining nut.

3. Disconnect clock spring to air bag module electrical connector, press air bag module connector lock outward using suitable screwdriver as shown in Fig. 2.
4. Remove air bag module.
5. Remove steering wheel locknut and washer.
6. Scribe installation alignment marks on steering shaft and steering wheel, remove wheel using steering wheel puller tool No. 09561-11001, or equivalent.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 29-36 ft. lbs. Rearm system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
