Engine - Low Frequency Droning Noise

1995 Sonata V-6 1,800 RPM Low Frequency Drone Noise

Some Sonata V-6 vehicles may experience a low frequency drone noise in the 1,800 RPM engine range.

CAUSE:

The noise occurs if engine firing impulse energy causes the A/C compressor belt to vibrate.

CORRECTION:




A bracket has been developed to help reduce the drone noise. The bracket is attached to the engine block and the air conditioning compressor.

PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION

97703-34500 Bracket
10141-10251 Bolt (compressor side) or M10 x 1.5 - 25 mm equivalent bolt.
97714-34520 Bolt (engine side) or M12 x 1.75 - 20 mm equivalent bolt.

Along with installation of the bracket, proper A/C compressor belt tension is necessary. Refer to the shop manual for the correct procedure.

Recommended A/C Compressor Belt Tension: 90 - 110 lbs. for a used belt
110- 130 lbs. for a new belt.
