Canister Purge Control Valve: Description and Operation

PURPOSE/OPERATION
The purge control solenoid valve, an on/off electro-mechanical valve is operated by the engine control module. After engine warm-up, and once off idle, the engine control module opens the purge control solenoid valve to allow fuel vapors from the EVAP canister to flow into the surge tank and be burned. When engine coolant temperature is low, or during idling, the purge control valve remains closed preventing fuel vapors from entering the surge tank, maintaining good driveability and idle quality.
